US 287 Intersection Improvements in Broomfield County

About the Project

This project aims to enhance safety and optimize traffic flow across four intersections on US 287.

The primary scope of work includes:

• Widening lanes
• Adding turn lanes
• Improving lane configurations at the intersections to improve capacity and traffic flow

Other work includes:

• Installing medians
• Adding pedestrian crosswalks
• Installing new signal heads at two of the four intersections to accommodate the new lanes

Improvements at US 287 & Miramonte Boulevard: At this intersection, crews will extend the existing southbound left turn lane on US 287 to eastbound Miramonte Boulevard by 200 feet by removing the median (without roadway widening). The left turn lane on westbound Miramonte Boulevard onto southbound US 287 will be extended to the first driveway entrance on the east side of US 287.

Improvements at US 287 & Midway Boulevard: Improvements at this intersection include adding a second southbound left turn lane on US 287 at Midway Boulevard; improving the east leg of Midway Boulevard to receive two left turn lanes; modifying the northbound US 287 right turn lane to eastbound Midway Boulevard; and making pedestrian crossing, signage, striping, and safety improvements.

Improvements at US 287/CO 121 & US 36 Junction: Improvements at this intersection include shifting the southbound US 287 lanes at the westbound US 36 ramp junction into the median, adding a raised median between the southbound through lanes and southbound on-ramp lane, and making associated signing, striping and signal modifications.

Improvements at US 287/W. 120th Avenue & Sheridan: Work includes converting the existing eastbound right turn lane into a through lane/right turn choice lane by restriping and making lane width adjustments. On the opposite side of the intersection, each through lane will have a traffic signal head centered over the lane.
