US 350 Resurfacing in Otero County

Significant traffic impacts are in place throughout the work zone. Vehicles wider than 11 feet are prohibited and must use an alternate route. Motorists should also be alert for uneven lanes, shoulder drop-offs and narrow roadways.

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contracting partner, Bettis Asphalt & Construction, Inc., will begin a resurfacing project along US Highway 350, southwest of the City of La Junta, between Mile Point 49.7 (County Road 9) and MP 63.7 (CR 24). Construction is anticipated to begin week of June 22, with completion expected no later than early September.

Work will include:

  • Resurfacing the highway
  • Rumble strip installation
  • Erosion control improvements
  • Road sign replacement
  • Striping.

During construction, motorists can anticipate alternating, single-lane closures with traffic directed by flaggers and possible delays. Please plan ahead and follow all posted signs. Slow down and use caution when driving through the work zone to help keep workers and other drivers safe.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts southwest of La Junta, from MP 45.7 to 64.7:

  • Single-lane closures with alternating traffic directed by flaggers - be prepared to stop
  • Delays of up to 15 minutes
  • Shoulder closures may occur
  • Caution when traveling through the work zone and be aware of the following traffic impacts:
    • Vehicles wider than 11 feet are prohibited through the work zone and must use an alternate route
    • Uneven lanes and shoulder drop-offs are present throughout the work zone
    • Narrow lanes and reduced shoulder widths are in place
    • Construction vehicles entering and exiting the work area
  • Speed limits are reduced to 40 MPH through the work zone
