US 40 Passing Lanes Project in Grand County

About the Project:

This is a passing lane construction project located on US 40 between Kremmling and Steamboat Springs. (Mile Points 171.9 to 173.3)

Work will include adding passing lanes for both eastbound and westbound US 40, extending culverts, signing, striping and traffic control.


Project Benefits

  • The construction of Passing Lanes will allow for safer transportation of commercial/freight trucks, motorists and cyclists on this busy corridor by providing a stretch of highway with space and opportunity for faster vehicles to safely pass slower moving traffic.

Work Schedule:

  • Normal working hours will be Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • There will be no work over holiday weekends.

Traffic Impacts:

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

  • Motorists will encounter alternating lane closures and delays up to 20 minutes can be expected during working hours on US 40, between Steamboat Springs and Kremmling, (Mile Points 172 - 173)
  • The speed limit will be reduced through the work zone.
