US 6 East of Holyoke Resurfacing
About the Project
The Colorado Department of Transportation, in collaboration with contracting partner Simon, began resurfacing a 13-mile stretch of US Highway 6 from east of Holyoke to the Colorado-Nebraska state line starting in May 2025.
The anticipated completion date of the project is early October 2025.
As part of the resurfacing process, the existing roadway will be milled, in certain areas, removing the top layer of pavement before being repaved with hot-mix asphalt. Other areas will be resurfaced by applying a new layer of asphalt over the existing pavement. This maintenance approach helps extend the roadway’s lifespan while reducing costs and limiting disruptions to travelers compared to a full reconstruction. Repaving with new asphalt protects the underlying pavement structure and improves the overall driving experience.
Roadway improvements will also include:
- New signage
- Striping
- Rumble strips
- Delineators
Additionally, a road closure gate will be installed near County Road 41 to be used during severe weather when driving conditions become too hazardous for motorists.
