US 6 North Avenue Traffic Signal Replacement

About the Project:

The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Morton Electric will began work installing new traffic signals at three locations in Grand Junction. The new traffic signals will be installed along US Highway 6/North Avenue. The new signals will be located at:

  • North Avenue and 5th Street
  • North Avenue and 23rd Street
  • North Avenue and 28 Road

Project Benefits

  • Upgraded traffic signals and pedestrian controls at three major intersections
  • ADA ramp, curb and gutter improvements

Work Schedule:

  • Work will be performed Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday work may be added as needed.
  • The project is expected to be complete by end of August, 2024

Traffic Impacts:

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

  • Motorists can expect single lane and shoulder closures in both the westbound and eastbound direction and on intersecting side streets through the project work zone.
  • Intermittent full closures to swing the new mast arms for the traffic signals will take place as the project nears that phase of work. This work will take place at night with lighting in place for worker safety.
  • Delays around the work zones are anticipated to be 10 minutes.
  • Signs will be posted to alert motorists to the closures and available detour routes
