US 6 Resurfacing Between Sterling and Atwood
About the Project
CDOT and contractor Harper Brothers Construction began a resurfacing, bridge replacement and roadway improvement project on US Highway 6 between Sterling and Atwood from Mile Point 398 to 405.
The eastbound US 6 bridge over Sterling #1 Lateral, located north of County Road 24 and south of Sterling, will be removed and replaced, while the westbound bridge will be resurfaced. To minimize impacts to motorists, traffic shifts and crossover detours will be implemented along US 6, placing traffic into a head-to-head configuration.
Crews will also complete deck repairs and install new guardrails on the Pawnee Creek Bridge to enhance safety and provide a smoother, more reliable roadway. As bridge construction progresses, milling and resurfacing operations will begin on eastbound US 6 as part of the overall roadway rehabilitation work, with westbound lanes to follow.
Following the bridge and US 6 resurfacing work, crews will begin concrete paving operations on South Division Avenue. South Division Avenue will be fully closed between Park Street and Delmar Street, with a signed detour directing motorists to connect with US 6 and Colorado Highway 14. During the closure, crews will complete storm sewer upgrades and improve curbs, gutters, sidewalks medians and slope and ditch paving. Speeds will be reduced between Chambers Drive and Park Street. Motorists should plan for possible delays and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.
Final improvements along US 6 include the installation of new roadway signage and pavement markings, in addition to a new road-closure gate and LED Luminaire to enhance safety and visibility for all travelers.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and follow posted detour routes. Please slow down and use caution while traveling through the work zone to ensure the safety of both workers and the traveling public.
