US 6 Resurfacing Between Sterling and Atwood

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Harper Brothers Construction will begin a resurfacing, bridge replacement and roadway improvement project on US Highway 6 between Sterling and Atwood, from Mile Point 398.2 to 404.11.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in December 2026.

The project includes the installation of several northbound and southbound crossover detours. These crossovers will shift traffic into a head-to-head configuration, allowing crews to work safely while maintaining two-way traffic through the work zone and minimizing impacts to motorists.

The northbound US 6 bridge over Sterling #1 Lateral, located north of County Road 24 and south of Sterling, will be removed and replaced, while the southbound bridge will be resurfaced. In addition, crews will complete deck repairs and install new guardrails on the Pawnee Creek Bridge, enhancing safety and ensuring a smoother, more reliable roadway for motorists.

Following bridge construction, crews will begin asphalt milling and concrete paving on southbound US 6 as part of the ongoing roadway resurfacing and rehabilitation. Additional improvements along the corridor include storm sewer upgrades, enhancements to curbs, gutters, sidewalks and medians, as well as slope and ditch paving, updated signage and pavement markings and installation of a new road-closure gate and LED Luminaire.

During portions of the project, South Division Avenue will be fully closed between Park Street and Delmar Street, and US 6 will be closed to through traffic between CR 24 and South Division Avenue, with signed detour routes guiding motorists around the closure.
