US 85 at County Road 14.5 Intersection Improvements

Project Complete!

The Colorado Department of Transportation and Mountain Constructors will make safety improvements at the signalized intersection of U.S. Highway 85 and Weld County Road 14½ (14th Street). The project will realign northbound and southbound US 85 left turn lanes to improve sight distance. Work involves concrete paving, traffic signal adjustment, and median cable rail installation.

This intersection was identified as a priority project and candidate for FASTER funding. Senate Bill 09-108, also known as the Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery Act of 2009 (FASTER) allows CDOT to improve roadway safety, repair deteriorating bridges, and support and expand transit.

Work Schedule:

  • Work is expected to begin in mid-February 2023
  • General work hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with occasional extended hours and weekend work. The construction schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change. Weekly updates are available on the project web page.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Northbound and southbound US 85 left turns at CR 14½ (14th Street) will be prohibited for several weeks starting on Monday, Feb. 27. US 85 left turn movement restrictions will be communicated in advance on message boards approaching the work zone. Drivers wanting to turn left from US 85 onto CR 14½ (14th Street) must seek alternate routes.

  • Drivers should expect trucks entering and exiting the work zone. At times, temporary concrete barrier wall will be used to separate the work zone from adjacent travel lanes. Drivers will be able to make all turn movements from CR 14½ (14th Street) onto and across US 85.
