NHTSA Developed a 360-degree Virtual Reality Drunk Driving Crash Scene

With the annual December launch of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over holiday campaign, the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration developed a 360-degree virtual reality web experience. The darkened scene allowed users to walk through the aftermath of a drunk driving crash as a police officer, EMT and firefighter.

Police officers lead a somber man to the back of a police car in handcuffs while firefighters scramble to contain a rolled-over car smothered in flames. A team of EMTs rush one victim to the back of an ambulance while another fights for his life with the help of dedicated paramedics. A distraught woman cries out in anguish and horror as she watches the scene unfold and is treated for her own injuries.

This upsetting virtual reality serves as a reminder for drivers who may think drunk driving is no big deal, and brings the risks of drunk driving into harsh perspective.
