Water Line Work to Close Westbound Arapahoe Road at Parker Road This Weekend

October 1, 2010 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - ARAPAHOE COUNTY – This weekend, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will conduct water line work under westbound Arapahoe Road just west of Parker Road.

The work is part of the Parker Road/Arapahoe Road interchange improvement project that constructs a grade-separated interchange that will carry Parker Road over Arapahoe Road.

As a result of the work, the following lane closures will be in place on Saturday, October 2nd and Sunday, October 3rd:

  • Two lanes of westbound Arapahoe Road between Lewiston Way and the first traffic signal west of Parker Road will be closed from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday.  This means that only one lane of westbound Arapahoe Road will remain open.
  • Starting at 10 p.m. on Saturday and continuing until 3 p.m. on Sunday, all lanes of westbound Arapahoe Road between Lewiston Way and the first traffic signal west of Parker Road will be closed.  Detour: Motorists on westbound Arapahoe Road will turn right onto Lewiston Way and take Lewiston Way to Arapahoe Road.  At the traffic signal, turn left onto Arapahoe Road and take the triple-lane ramp from southbound Parker Road to westbound Arapahoe Road.

“The waterline is underneath all lanes of westbound Arapahoe Road which requires us to close down all lanes to complete the work,” said CDOT Resident Engineer Abe Lavassani.  “Since the work takes nearly a full day to complete, we have to conduct the work on a weekend so we do not impact peak travel hours during the week.  Our crews will expedite the work as much as possible this weekend.”

Major delays are expected this weekend at the interchange and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  All lanes of westbound Arapahoe Road will reopen by 3 p.m. Sunday.

Hamon Constructors, Inc. is the contractor for this $32 million project, which should be complete by the end of November 2011.
