Concrete Barrier Work to Cause Delays on Santa Fe Drive This Weekend

November 19, 2010 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - JEFFERSON COUNTY—Starting at 7 p.m. tonight, November 19th and continuing until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, October 22nd, one lane of northbound and southbound Santa Fe Drive between Aspen Grove Way and S. Vinewood Street will be closed to allow crews to install median barrier.

All work is weather permitting and major delays are possible this weekend.  Alternate routes are strongly advised.

“In order to safely install the concrete median barrier along this portion of Santa Fe Drive, we need to close the left lane in each direction,” said CDOT Project Engineer Jason Nelson.  “By conducting the work over an entire weekend, we can complete a major portion of the improvements along Santa Fe Drive rather than stretching out the work over several weeks.”

The median barrier work on Santa Fe Drive is part of a larger safety improvement project along C-470 and Santa Fe Drive (US 85).  The project will install median cable guardrail on C-470 between Morrison Road and Wadsworth Boulevard and between approximately Quebec Street and I-25.  The median barrier in all three locations will help prevent crossover accidents, which tend to be more severe than most accidents.

Throughout the project, motorists can expect single lane closures on eastbound and westbound C-470 Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and on northbound and southbound Santa Fe Drive Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.  Delays are expected and alternate routes are advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Most fines for infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

New Design Construction Co. is the contractor for the project, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of March 2011.  This $3 million project is being funded through Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery (FASTER), which is dedicated to improving safety and replacing poor bridges.
