Pipe Work to Close Santa Fe Drive Over C-470 This Week

November 30, 2010 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DOUGLAS COUNTY— This week, December 1st and December 2nd, weather permitting, there will be various full closures of northbound and southbound Santa Fe Drive between C-470 and County Line Road during the overnight hours.

The following lane closures will be in place this week, weather permitting:

  • Wednesday, December 1st:  One lane of southbound Santa Fe Drive between County Line Road and C-470 will be closed starting at 7 p.m. with all lanes closing at 9 p.m.  All lanes of southbound Santa Fe Drive will reopen by 5:30 a.m. on Thursday. Crews will be reducing the double left turn southbound Santa Fe Drive to eastbound C-470 from two lanes to one and adding a left turn lane northbound Santa Fe Drive to westbound C-470 for a total of two.  Detour: Motorists can take County Line Road east to Lucent Boulevard where access to westbound C-470 is available.  Take westbound C-470 to southbound Santa Fe Drive.
  • Thursday, December 2nd:  All lanes of northbound Santa Fe Drive between C-470 and County Line Road will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Crews will be drilling caissons for the flyover bridge.  Detour: Motorists can take westbound C-470 to South Platte Canyon Road to then Mineral Avenue where access to northbound Santa Fe Drive is available.

Major delays are expected and alternate routes are strongly advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all traffic signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

The work is part of a safety and mobility improvement project that constructs a flyover ramp from southbound Santa Fe Drive (US 85) to eastbound C-470.  In addition, the project will construct a new bridge over Erickson Boulevard as well as a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Erickson Boulevard.  The bicycle/pedestrian trail will also be reconstructed.

The $26.7 million project is partially funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as well as CDOT and Douglas County.  Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. is the contractor for this project scheduled to be complete by January 2012.
