Traffic Realignment on Arapahoe Road Near Parker Road to Cause Delays on Saturday

November 3, 2010 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - ARAPAHOE COUNTY – On Saturday, November 6th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will realign eastbound and westbound Arapahoe Road near Parker Road to accommodate the construction of the new Parker Road bridge over Arapahoe Road.

“Westbound Arapahoe Road has been in a temporary alignment for some utility work that is now finished so we will place it back into its normal configuration,” said CDOT Project Engineer Ed Bullard.  “Then we need to finish realigning eastbound Arapahoe Road to the south about 25 feet for construction purposes.  This work will require lane closures and result in significant delays.”

To complete the traffic realignment, there will be single and double lane closures on eastbound and westbound Arapahoe Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Major delays are possible and alternate routes are strongly advised.  Motorists on eastbound Arapahoe Road can turn right onto Chambers Way where access to Parker Road is available and those on westbound Arapahoe Road can turn right onto Lewiston Way which connects to Parker Road.

CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  The speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH throughout much of the project.

Motorists are also reminded that Parker Road is in a temporary alignment with some lane reductions until May 2011.  Alternate routes are strongly advised throughout much of the project.

This realignment is part of an interchange improvement project that constructs a grade-separated interchange that will carry Parker Road over Arapahoe Road.  Hamon Constructors, Inc. is the contractor for this $32 million project, which should be complete by the end of November 2011.
