Crews to Realign Parker Road Near Orchard Road for Final Phase of Bridge Repairs over Piney Creek

January 21, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - AURORA – On Tuesday, January 25th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will realign northbound and southbound Parker Road at Orchard Road to complete the final phase of bridge repairs over Piney Creek. The realignment moves traffic to the west so crews can complete work on the east side of the bridge.

The temporary realignment allows for all three lanes of northbound and southbound Parker Road to remain open, but the lanes have been reduced in width to 10 feet and the speed limit is reduced to 45 MPH.  Once the repairs are made on the east side of the bridge, Parker Road will be placed in its final configuration.

To complete the realignment, crews will close two lanes of northbound and southbound Parker Road near Orchard Road from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  In addition, motorists can also expect various double lanes closures in various locations on Parker Road from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for concrete slab repairs.  For weekly lane closure information, please visit http://www.coloradodot.info/travel/assets/DenverMetro_web.pdf.

Major delays are expected throughout the project and alternate routes are strongly advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to pay attention to the construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.

The bridge work is part of a concrete rehabilitation and bridge repair project on Parker Road between Peoria Street and E-470.  The project will repair or replace approximately 760 concrete slabs along eight miles of Parker Road and repair the bridges over the Cherry Creek Spillway, Piney Creek and Vaughn Way.  The mechanically stabilized earth wall at the Nine Mile Park N Ride Station will also be repaired.

Hamon Contractors, Inc. is the contractor of this $2.3 million project, which should be complete by the end of July 2011.
