Bridge Deck Pour to Close I-25 Near Alameda Avenue Next Week

April 15, 2011 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DENVER — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will pour concrete for bridge deck on the southern portion of the new Alameda Avenue bridge over I-25 next week.

To complete the work, there will be single and double lane closures Monday and Tuesday, April 18th and 19th, with a full closure of I-25 near Alameda Avenue on Wednesday, April 20th, weather permitting.

Monday and Tuesday, one lane of southbound I-25 near Alameda Avenue will be closed starting at 8 p.m. with a second lane closing at 9 p.m.  These closures will be for pipe tie in at the pump station along I-25.  Wednesday, one lane of northbound and southbound I-25 will be closed near Alameda Avenue with a second lane closing at 9 p.m. and all lanes of northbound and southbound I-25 closing at 11 p.m.  Lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. the each day.  Another full closures of northbound and southbound I-25 may be necessary on Thursday, April 22nd, if crews do not complete the work on Wednesday.

While the full closures of northbound and southbound I-25 near Alameda Avenue are in place, motorists can utilize the following detour routes:

  • Northbound Detour Route: Motorists on northbound I-25 will exit onto Alameda Avenue and will follow the detour signs to Santa Fe Drive. Once on Santa Fe Drive, head north to Cedar Avenue and take a left for access to northbound I-25.
  • Southbound Detour Route:  Motorists on southbound I-25 will use the on and off-ramps at Alameda Avenue as a detour route; however, this will reduce I-25 to one lane near 6th Avenue and alternate routes are strongly advised.

Throughout the week, major delays are expected on I-25 and Alameda Avenue and alternate routes are strongly advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Most fines for infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

This work is part of a $37.4 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project that will replace the Alameda Avenue bridge over I-25 with one that is wider to accommodate an additional lane in each direction.  The project will also construct a longer acceleration ramp from to Kalamath Street to northbound I-25, widen I-25 under Alameda Avenue for wider shoulders and improve drainage to alleviate the flooding that often occurs in the area.
