Concrete Work to Close Ramp from Westbound C-470 to University Boulevard This Weekend

April 22, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DOUGLAS COUNTY—Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, April 22nd and continuing until noon on Sunday, April 24th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will remove and replace concrete pavement on University Boulevard at C-470 as part of an ongoing project.

The work will require a full closure of the ramp from westbound C-470 to University Boulevard.

“We need to remove and replace the concrete on northbound University Boulevard at the bottom of the westbound C-470 off-ramp,” said CDOT Project Engineer George Warda.  “This is a fairly long process that requires us to remove the existing concrete, pour the new concrete and then let it cure for 12 to 18 hours until it reaches strength.”

Throughout the weekend, motorists on westbound C-470 needing access to University Boulevard will be detoured to Broadway and then to either Dad Clark Drive or County Line Road where they can travel east to University Boulevard.  There will be no lane closures on University Boulevard throughout the weekend so motorists can utilize either detour route.

Delays are expected throughout the weekend and alternate routes are strongly advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

This work is part of a safety improvement project in three locations on University Boulevard and Wadsworth Boulevard.  The project will remove and replace deteriorating concrete at University Boulevard and C-470 and University Boulevard and Dry Creek Road.  In addition, the traffic signal at Wadsworth Boulevard and Coal Mine Avenue will be upgraded.

New Design Construction Co. is the contractor of the project, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of July 2011.  This $3.1 million project is being funded through Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery (FASTER), which is dedicated to improving safety and replacing poor bridges.
