Median Barrier Work to Close Lanes on Parker Road Near I-225 on Saturday

May 6, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - AURORA – Tomorrow, May 7th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close the left lane of northbound and southbound Parker Road between Vaughn Way and Hampden Avenue, which is just south of I-225. The lane closures will be in place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for center barrier work.

“If the weather cooperates over the next week and the work proceeds as planned, we should wrap up the project in the next week or two,” said CDOT Project Engineer Alan Wagenknecht.  “Until we complete the work, we will continue to have lane closures on Parker Road and encourage motorists to seek alternate routes.”

In addition to the weekend work, motorists can expect various single and double lane closures on northbound and southbound Parker Road between Vaughn Way and Hampden Avenue from Monday, May 9th through Friday, May 13th.  The lane closures will be in place each day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for bridge work and striping.  Delays are expected and alternate routes are advised.

The bridge work is part of a concrete rehabilitation and bridge repair project on Parker Road between Peoria Street and E-470.  The project repaired or replaced approximately 760 concrete slabs along eight miles of Parker Road and repaired the expansion joints on the bridges over the Cherry Creek Spillway, Piney Creek and Vaughn Way.  The mechanically stabilized earth wall at the Nine Mile Park N Ride Station was also repaired.

Hamon Contractors, Inc. is the contractor of this $2.3 million project, which should be complete by the end of May 2011.
