New Roundabout Construction Begins in Georgetown

September 13, 2011 - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - GEORGETOWN – Work is underway on a single lane roundabout to improve the 15th Street/Argentine Street intersection, just south of the Georgetown Interchange on Interstate 70.

The new roundabout will provide better traffic flows in and out of Georgetown during periods of high volume in the summer and winter.  It also will provide easier access for emergency vehicles responding to incidents on I-70.

In addition to redesigning the existing four-way intersection into a roundabout, construction includes improvements to the approach streets and streetscape.

“It’s rewarding to help bring this project to fruition, first with the design, and now with construction,” said Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Resident Engineer Grant Anderson.  “The roundabout will provide a great improvement to a busy intersection in Georgetown.  Along with the drainage improvements, the modern design and enhanced pedestrian crossings will improve the safety and mobility in the area for years to come.”

Concrete Express, Inc. (CEI) of Denver, CO. is the contractor for the $1.5 million project, which is scheduled for completion in November 2011.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: Will be minimal; however, there may be occasional lane closures to accommodate construction traffic or when it is in the best interest of public safety. Work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Thank you for going Slow for the Cone Zone!
