Traffic Realignment on Southbound I-25 to Cause Major Delays Tonight

October 11, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DENVER — Tonight, October 11, 2011, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will realign southbound I-25 near Alameda Avenue onto the new concrete pavement.

As a result, there will be multiple lane and ramp closures on southbound I-25 from 8 p.m. tonight until 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

To complete the work, one lane of southbound I-25 will be closed starting at 8 p.m. with a second lane closing at 9 p.m. and a third lane closing at 10 p.m. This will leave only one lane of southbound I-25 open from 10 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to avoid southbound I-25 and seek alternate routes. In addition, the ramp from southbound I-25 to Alameda Avenue/Santa Fe Drive will be completely closed from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Motorists on southbound I-25 needing access to Alameda Avenue or Santa Fe Drive will be detoured to Broadway.

Major delays are expected throughout the night on southbound I-25 near Alameda Avenue and alternate routes are strongly advised. All lanes and the ramp will reopen by 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

This work is part of a $37.4 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project that will replace the Alameda Avenue bridge over I-25 with one that is wider to accommodate an additional lane in each direction.  The project will also construct a longer acceleration ramp from to Kalamath Street to northbound I-25, widen I-25 under Alameda Avenue for wider shoulders and improve drainage to alleviate the flooding that often occurs in the area.

Jalisco International, Inc. of Commerce City, CO is the contractor for this project scheduled to be complete by the end of September 2012.
