State Highway 392 Over I-25 Including Ramps to Close for Eight Days Starting on Monday to Accommodate Bridge Construction

November 10, 2011 - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - LARIMER/WELD COUNTY – Starting at 8 p.m. on Monday, November 14th and continuing until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22nd, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will completely close State Highway (SH) 392 over I-25 as well as all of the ramps as part of the I-25/SH 392 interchange improvement project. The frontage roads will remain open.

“During the eight-day closure, we will reconstruct a portion of SH 392 as well as the I-25 ramps and realign traffic onto the newly completed northern portion of the bridge,” said CDOT Project Engineer Gray Currier.  “The full closure of SH 392 is necessary to allow crews to safely rebuild the roadway and ramps to match up with their new alignment.”

During the closure, the following detour routes will be in place:

  • SH 392 on the east side of I-25: Motorists will be detoured east to Larimer County Road 5 where they will travel north to Harmony Road or south to Crossroads Boulevard.
  • SH 392 on the west side of I-25: Motorists will be detoured either west to Timberline Road (Larimer County Road 11) where they will travel north to Harmony Road or south on the Southwest Frontage Road to Crossroads Boulevard.
  • Northbound I-25: Motorists on northbound I-25 needing access to SH 392 will exit at Crossroads Boulevard and follow the detour signs north to SH 392. If motorists miss the Crossroads Boulevard exit, they can take the Harmony Road exit and follow the detour signs south to SH 392.
  • Southbound I-25: Motorists on southbound I-25 needing access to SH 392 will exit at Harmony Road and follow the detour signs south to SH 392.  If motorists miss the Harmony Road exit, they can take the Crossroads Boulevard exit and follow the detour signs north to SH 392.

Delays are possible along the detour routes, and other alternate routes are suggested. All lanes and ramps at the I-25/SH 392 interchange should reopen by 8 p.m. on November 22nd.  Should inclement weather delay the reopening of the interchange, further information will be released.

This work is part of a $17.5 million project that replaces the SH 392 bridge over I-25 with one that is wider to accommodate two lanes in each direction as well as a left-turn lane in each direction.  There will also be a six-foot bike lane and a 6.5-foot sidewalk on each side of the bridge. The frontage road on the west side of the interchange will be realigned, and the ramps will be designed to accommodate more traffic. In addition, an expanded 90-space carpool/vanpool lot will be constructed in the southwest corner of the interchange.

Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. is the contractor for this project. The project is being funded by CDOT, the Federal Highway Administration, the City of Fort Collins, and the Town of Windsor.
