Traffic Realignment to Close Colfax Avenue Ramp to Southbound I-225 Tomorrow

December 16, 2011 - Denver Metro Area/CDOT Region 6 - Tomorrow, December 17th from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the ramp from Colfax Avenue to southbound I-225 will be completely closed in order to realign traffic to the east onto the newly reconstructed portion of the ramp.

The traffic realignment will allow crews to reconstruct the western portion of the ramp.

During the closure, motorists will be detoured to Potomac Street or Chambers Road, then south to 6th Avenue where access to southbound I-225 is available.

Delays are possible in the area and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

This work is part of the second phase of the I-225/Colfax Avenue reconstruction project that constructs the southbound off-ramp to 17th Avenue and Colfax Avenue along with the southern portion of 17th Avenue to serve inbound traffic.

Hamon Contractors, Inc. is the contractor for this $17.9 million project that is scheduled to be complete by the end of December 2011.

A project that combines the third and fourth phases of the I-225/Colfax Avenue interchange improvement project is also underway. The final project constructs the southbound I-225 slip-ramp from 17th Place and widens the west side of the I-225 bridge over Colfax Avenue to accommodate the new slip-ramp. The northbound I-225 on-ramp from Colfax Avenue will be reconstructed to provide an elevated collector/distributor road between Colfax Avenue and 17th Place. In addition, the northbound I-225 slip-ramp will be reconstructed to provide access to 17th Place and the new 17th Place bridge over I-225 will be constructed.

This $11 million project that recently started will complete the interchange improvements. SEMA Construction Co. is the contractor for the project scheduled to be complete by the end of February 2013.
