Northbound I-25 closures between US 36 and 84th Avenue planned for 1 to 3 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday

January 8, 2016 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - ADAMS COUNTY – The installation of three new overhead sign structures along northbound Interstate 25 (I-25) between US 36 and 84th Ave. will require closing this section of the highway from 1 to 3 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, through Thursday, Jan. 14.

During this time, access will also be restricted to northbound I-25 from westbound I-270, eastbound US 36 and eastbound I-76.

The new mono-tube structures are being installed as part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project and will span the width of the highway to support static and variable messaging signs that will provide instructions and guidance regarding the new express lane system.

“These new signs are an integral part of the statewide express lanes project, and will help ease the transition as motorists begin to utilize the new express lane,” says CDOT engineer Jason Lucerna. The signs are also constructed with “full-cube” prismatic reflective sheeting, making them more visible to motorists at night while eliminating the need for external lighting.

Some of these signs are nearly the width of a football field in size, making these closures necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public during installation. Flatiron Constructors has taken every effort to minimize commuter impact, and specifically planned these closures for late at night after the holiday season, when traffic volume is at a minimum. Signed detours will be in place during the time of the closure.

Northbound I-25 drivers, and anyone trying to access northbound I-25 from westbound I-270, eastbound US 36, or eastbound I-76, should plan additional travel time to follow the detours around the closure.

Recommended Detours:

Northbound I-25 motorists will exit US 36 westbound, and detour north on Pecos St. to use 84th Ave. to re-enter I-25 north.

Westbound I-270 motorists planning to access northbound I-25 via Exit 0 will continue onto westbound US36, and detour north on Pecos to use 84th Ave. to access I-25 north.

Eastbound I-76 motorists planning to access northbound I-25 via Exit 5 will exit southbound on I-25, and use 58th Ave. to turn around onto northbound I-25. Motorists can then exit US 36 westbound, and detour north on Pecos St. to use 84th Ave to re-enter I-25 north.

Eastbound US 36 motorists planning to access northbound I-25 via Exit 0 can either exit at Pecos St. in advance of the closure or continue east onto I-270 and use Exit 2B (Vasquez Blvd.) to turn around onto westbound I-270. They will then continue onto westbound US 36, detour north on Pecos St., and use 84thAve. to access I-25 north.

All southbound lanes of I-25 will remain open during these closures.
