CDOT Partnership Project Begins: Signalization of CO 172 and CO 151 in Ignacio

March 17, 2016 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - IGNACIO – On Monday, March 21, the Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a project to signalize the intersection of Colorado Highway (CO) 172 (Goddard Ave.) and CO 151 (Ute Street).

The safety-improvement project consists of the installation of traffic and pedestrian signals with lighting, placement of concrete pavement, installation of new concrete sidewalks and curb ramps, and final signing and striping. This $1.6 million project is a partnership* between CDOT, the Town of Ignacio, La Plata County and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. The work was contracted to Technology Constructors, Inc., is scheduled for a May 2016 completion.

TRAVEL IMPACTS

During the first week of construction, no lane closures are anticipated; motorists can expect traffic slowing through the intersection as crews work to install the traffic signal mast arm (overhead). Through the project’s completion in May 2016, work will be done Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Motorists should expect lane shifts and periodic single-lane traffic with some delays during working hours. Fines will be doubled in the work zone.  Ute Street will be closed to traffic for a portion of the construction period—approximately 30 consecutive days. Signing will guide motorists to alternate routes and/or business access.
