Overnight Closure of Garrison Street This Week

April 18, 2016 - Metro Denver Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - LAKEWOOD – Garrison Street will be closed at U.S. 6 from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, until 4:30 a.m. Thursday for final striping operations on Garrison.

The ramps from eastbound and westbound U.S. 6 ramps to Garrison also will be closed.  Drivers will need to use an alternate route to access areas around this closure point.

Background

The replacement of the existing and structurally deficient bridge along U.S. 6 over Garrison Street began in January 2015 and will be completed in five phases. Three of the phases are for bridge demolition and reconstruction. In each phase, a section of the existing bridge will be demolished while a section of the new bridge is constructed. Three lanes in each direction on U.S. 6 will be maintained at peak travel times throughout the project, but a series of shifts in the lanes will accompany each phase. Intermittent night work will require lane closures.

When complete, the new bridge will provide greater vertical sight distance on Highway 6, improve drainage, widen lanes on both U.S. 6 and Garrison Street and upgrade the sidewalks, signals, bike lanes, aesthetics and lighting under the bridge.

The City of Lakewood has been an important partner in the planning and development of this project, which is scheduled for completion in April 2016.

CDOT and the contractor team, led by Hamon Infrastructure, would like to remind motorists to slow down in the construction area. Fines will be doubled within the work zone.
