I-70 Eastbound over Garrison Street Project to begin construction in fall 2016

September 15, 2016 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Project completion scheduled for winter 2017

WHEAT RIDGE – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin construction on Interstate 70 eastbound over Garrison Street onSeptember 19. Working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Motorists can expect lane closures and lane shifts during the course of the project.

The purpose of the project is to widen the Garrison Bridge in order to lengthen the area to merge from the eastbound Kipling ramp onto I-70.

The project includes bridge widening, partial sound wall reconstruction, removal of guardrail, Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) dowel bar retrofits, PCCP shoulder pavement, light standard and drainage inlet relocation, and overhead sign structure replacement.

Drivers should be prepared for lane shifts and lane closures throughout the project area. The speed limit will remain at 65 mph and vehicles wider than 12 feet will be restricted through the work zone. 

The project is on schedule and expects to finish in winter 2017. Work hours could be extended or additional weekend closures could be scheduled.   

The prime contractor for the $2.5 million project is Hamilton Construction Co.
