Lanes Closed Overnight on Northbound I-25 at South Academy Boulevard

EL PASO COUNTY—Crews will close a single lane of northbound Interstate 25 approaching South Academy Boulevard starting at 7 tonight, Monday, Oct. 10. The South Academy Boulevard on-ramp will also be reduced to a single lane.

Lane closures, which are necessary for asphalt paving operations, will be lifted by 5 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11.

CDOT and prime contractor, Tricon 2, are in the final stage of constructing an acceleration lane for the South Academy Boulevard on-ramp to northbound I-25. Until now, most work performed on the project has occurred behind temporary barrier wall.

Once asphalt paving is complete the week of Oct. 17, crews will remove the barrier wall, place final striping and complete finishing work. Motorists should anticipate vehicles entering and exiting the work zone. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph on mainline I-25 through the work zone.

When complete, the acceleration lane will provide motorists approximately 1,500 feet to merge onto northbound I-25. This $1.1 million project also includes drainage infrastructure and new overhead lighting. The work is anticipated to be substantially complete in October, weather-permitting.
