Martin Marietta Work on Signal at CR 13 on US 34 Starts Today

County road to be closed Monday and Tuesday for work


WELD COUNTY—
Martin Marietta will be closing Weld County Road (CR) 13 at US 34 west of Greeley today, Monday, April 10, and tomorrow, Tuesday, April 11, for work on the signal planned there.

Crews will complete signal work at CR 13 and US 34, along with upgraded rail crossing and signalization of the Great Western Rail Road crossing there. The signals will be integrated to coordinate traffic flow along the US 34 corridor. The upgraded rail crossing will be linked into the intersection signal. The project will be privately funded and will be completed in four phases through June 30.

  • Phase 1: April 7-24
    CR 13 median islands and US 34 under road bore and caissons installation for signals; construction will include:
    • Installation of curb on north side of US 34 at intersection
    • Installation of median island between eastbound US 34 and Kelim frontage road
    • Installation of caissons on north side of US 34 for future signals
    • Boring conduits under US 34 and CR 13 for signals
    Traffic impacts:
    • CR 13 will be closed April 7-8.
    • CR 13 northbound closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • US 34 will remain open.
  • Phase 2: April 24 – May 18:
    US 34 eastbound acceleration lane from northbound CR 13 and rail crossing replacement; construction includes:
    • Excavation for acceleration lane extension for eastbound US 34
    • Installation of temporary rail signals at rail crossings at US 34
    • Removal and replacement of rail crossing at eastbound US 34
    • Milling and paving extended acceleration lane
    Traffic impacts:
    • Weekday shoulder closures on eastbound US 34
    • Weekend lane shift for eastbound US 34 from 8 p.m. May 5 through 5 a.m. May 8
    • CR 13 closed south of US 34
  • Phase 3: May 19 – June 1:
    US 34 westbound deceleration lane to southbound CR 13 and rail crossing replacement; construction includes:
    • Excavation for deceleration lane extension for westbound US 34
    • Removing and replacing rail crossing on westbound US 34
    • Milling and paving extended deceleration lane
    Traffic impacts:
    • Weeknight lane closures on westbound US 34
    • Weekend lane shift for westbound US 34 from 8 p.m. Friday, May 19 through 5 a.m. Monday, May 22
    • CR 13 closed south of US 34
  • Phase 4: June 1–30:
    Signalization of intersection and testing; construction includes:
    • Installation of signals at intersection of US 34 and CR 13
    • Installation of railroad signal and crossing control
    • Removal of temporary signals
    Traffic impacts:
    • Periodic shoulder closures in work areas
