US 160 & 550 in Downtown Durango to Undergo Pavement Rehabilitation Work

DURANGO—U.S. highways (US) 160 and 550 in downtown Durango will undergo a concrete pavement rehabilitation starting around the week of March 6. The project will go through Durango's main business corridor—beginning at Tech Center Drive on US 160, just west of the US 160/500 intersection, and ending at Animas View Drive (3800 block) on US 550 north of Durango.

The project is expected to last approximately three months, with the intent of completing work by the latter part of May—in time for Memorial Day tourist traffic.

CDOT will present information about the project to the Durango City Council at its regularly scheduled monthly meeting 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6 in the council chambers, 949 E. 2nd Ave. The presentation is for the benefit of the council; no public comment or questions will be taken.

Key points of the presentation will include:

  • Announcement of the prime contractor: ACME Concrete Paving Inc., of Spokane, Wash.
  • Benefits of the project:
    • Prolonging the life of the concrete current pavement
    • Enhancing the safety of the highway
  • Improvement work includes:
    • Improving of roadway smoothness
    • Restoring skid resistance of the pavement surface
    • Replacing and patching damaged concrete pavement
    • Removing conflicting stripe shadows
    • Installing new pavement markings with bike lanes

CDOT is also coordinating with the ACME Concrete Paving Inc., to schedule a public open house. It is tentatively set for 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at the CDOT Maintenance Meeting Room, 20581 US 160 W.
