Sterling S-Curve open house planned for July 27

July 18, 2017 - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - STERLING — The Colorado Department of Transportation is holding an open house to present the final design and construction timeframe for the S-Curve project through downtown.

A community open house to present the proposed design will be on Thursday, July 27, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Sterling Public Library, 420 North 5th Street. A presentation will be given at 6 p.m.

The new S-Curve will extend along vacated railroad tracks, connecting the intersection of West Main/Division/North Fifth Street with Chestnut/Fourth Street. The project also includes the conversion of Third and Fourth Streets from one-way to two-way between South Division and Broadway Streets and along South Division between Third and Fourth Streets. In addition, West Main Street will be reconstructed from approximately 8th Avenue east to Division Street. Installation of raised medians, median lighting and drainage improvements along with ADA-compliant sidewalks and ramps are planned along West Main Street.

The design, as presented at the June 2016 open house, showed a tight S-Curve alignment between Chestnut and West Main Streets. The most recent design has been modified to flatten the curvature of this S-Curve alignment, which will further improve vehicle safety along the proposed roadway alignment.

The project is planned to be advertised in late 2018 with construction beginning in the spring of 2019. Public outreach will continue throughout the project.
