CO 90 Bedrock Bridge Delivery, River Closures Postponed to Tuesday, May 16

SOUTHWEST COLORADO—Due to unforeseen circumstances, the delivery of support beams and concrete portions of the new Bedrock Bridge originally set for Tuesday, May 9 has been postponed for one week.

Highway & Travel Impacts

From 2-4 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16 a 13-mile section of Colorado Highway (CO) 145 will be closed—from the intersection of the CO 62 junction to just outside of Norwood) as crews make the delivery. Colorado State Patrol (CSP) personnel will be on hand to assist with the closure. The delivery is planned for the early morning to minimize impacts for the traveling public.

Trucks will be leaving Montrose at midnight on Tuesday, May 16 and meeting CSP officers for the highway closure near the intersection of CO 145 and CO 62. When all trucks arrive, the CSP will close the road to allow for safe passage of the truck convoy to Bedrock.

Once the trucks have traveled CO 145 past Norwood Hill, the highway will be reopened. The expected time frame for the road closure is approximately two hours. Trucks will continue onto Bedrock to their final destination.

River User Impacts

River closures will also be postponed by a week. The same day of delivery (Tuesday, May 16), SEMA Construction will begin lifting the large precast members for the new bridge, which will cause intermittent closures of the Dolores River at the construction site. River users will encounter periodic half-hour river closures, while large pieces of concrete are suspended over the river and positioned into place.

  • Monday, May 8 - Monday, May 15: There is no construction activity taking place at the bridge site. Boaters have full access to the river at Bedrock.
  • Tuesday, May 16 - Friday, May 26: Periodic half-hour river closures are anticipated.
  • Saturday, May 20 - Sunday, May 21: The river will be open with no closures over the weekend. Please note buoys may remain in the river during the "open" condition.
  • Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, May 27 ― Monday, May 29: The river will be open with no closures over the holiday weekend. Please note buoys may remain in the river during the "open" condition.

Updated signage and instructions will be posted at Bradfield Bridge, Dove Creek Pump Station, Slick Rock, and Gypsum Valley to inform and notify the public and river users of closures occurring on the river at Bedrock.
