Culvert Repairs Set to Begin Aug. 10 on US 24 in Manitou Springs

Aug. 3, 2018 -

MANITOU SPRINGS—
On Friday, Aug. 10, CDOT is scheduled to begin replacing the concrete culvert under Manitou Avenue (US Highway 24 Business Route), a structure damaged during recent storms.

Recent flooding damaged the west wall of the structure between the curbs and gutters, requiring a full closure of Manitou Avenue between Ruxton and Park avenues. However, as sidewalks in the area weren't impacted, pedestrian access remains intact.

CDOT will begin the process to contract the $1.5 million to $2 million project on Monday, Aug. 6. Work will include demolishing and removing the old structure, and replacing it with a new 60-foot-long box culvert. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.

To access locations west of the closure point, drivers should use Serpentine Drive (not recommended for large trucks) or the US 24/Manitou Avenue interchange. Access from the east is available via the US 24/Manitou Avenue interchange, or Sunshine Trail.

CDOT maintenance crews and local law enforcement are monitoring the site to maintain safe travel in the area.

Additional information regarding the upcoming construction will be distributed before work proceeds.
