Project on Santa Fe Drive between Hampden Avenue and Lipan Street to start on July 16

July 5, 2018 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1

ARAPAHOE COUNTY — Starting on Monday, July 16, 2018, the Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner, Jalisco International Inc., will begin work on roadway widening and intersection improvements on Santa Fe Drive (US 85) between Hampden Avenue and Lipan Street, mile post 206.78 to 207.85. Crews will widen southbound US 85 between Hampden Avenue to Lipan Street to add acceleration lanes and westbound Hampden Avenue to southbound US 85 to accommodate two 16-foot lanes with shoulders.

This $2.97 million project will also include installation of new traffic signals and crosswalks, and will replace concrete slabs and ADA ramps.

“As more people move to Colorado, the more we see congestion on our roadways,” said Regional Transportation Director Paul Jesaitis. “This project will work to enhance safety and reduce backups in the area, which will help cut down on the amount of time motorists sit in traffic. During construction, we ask that motorists please drive slow through the cone zone.”

This project is expected to be complete in fall 2018.

TRAVEL IMPACTS

Crews will work off the roadway until intersection work begins in late July at Dartmouth Avenue and US 85. Motorists should expect various right-turn lane closures during intersection improvements. There are currently no additional closures, speed reductions or restrictions expected through the work zone. Typical work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend and nighttime work may occur as needed. Motorists are asked to please go slow in the cone zone.
