June 22, 2018 -

MONTE VISTA—On Monday, June 25, crews will begin installing new signalized lights and curb ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) at the intersection of Colorado Highway 15 and 2nd Avenue.

Schedule & Travel Impacts

  • Work is scheduled through mid-August.
  • Normal working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, with hours extended in special cases.
  • Weekend work also may occur if necessary.
  • During construction, pedestrians and motorized vehicles can expect sidewalk and one-lane closures.
  • All travelers should expect travel impacts throughout the construction project.

Project Info

The new signal stems from a region-wide intersection priority study that was conducted from 2014 to 2015. Local agencies nominated over 100 locations across Southwest Colorado for the study.

The intersection of CO 15 and 2nd Avenue sees between 2,100 to 3,300 vehicles per day. Due to the traffic volumes, the town of Monte Vista and CDOT included the CO 15 and 2nd Avenue intersection in the study.

"The study analysis determined this intersection eligible to receive safety funding to build a new traffic signal and fulfill CDOT's continued commitment to better accessibility on state highways for all users,"" said Julie Constan, a traffic and safety program engineer for CDOT's Southwest region.
