I-25 Cable Barrier Installation Project to Begin Sept. 14

Sept. 5, 2018 - Nightly Lane Closures Expected

EL PASO COUNTY—On Friday, Sept. 14, crews will begin improving the median barrier on I-25 between Colorado Springs and Pueblo, near Fountain.

Crews will work on the tensioned cable barrier for an approximate four-mile stretch of the southbound lane (from mile points 125.2 to 121.1). By installing cable barrier along this stretch, crews will enhance safety by reducing median crossover crashes.

Work will begin with construction surveying, clearing and flattening of slopes, erosion control and the removal of asphalt. Work will then continue with asphalt replacement and installation of the cable barrier.

Travel Impacts

  • From 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, travelers can expect inside single-lane closures.
  • Construction will be done during nighttime hours to avoid traffic impacts during peak travel times.
  • Speed limits will be reduced to 55 mph.

Work on the project is expected to be completed this fall. All lane closures and traffic restrictions will be posted in advance.
