US 85 from Eaton to Ault in New Configuration

Sept. 11, 2018 - Second Northbound Lane to Open Thursday; Work Continues

NORTH WELD COUNTY—
On Saturday, Sept. 8, crews successfully switched traffic to the final configuration on the southbound lanes of US Highway 85 between the towns of Eaton and Ault.

Crews worked through the night on Friday, Sept. 7, to re-open the lanes. The traffic shift will be totally complete when the inside northbound US 85 lane is open this Thursday, Sept. 13.

"The additional layers of asphalt the crews found underneath the roadway caused delays in the project. These layers spanned the entire length of the project area and needed to be completely removed," said CDOT Project Engineer Anthony Anderson. "The road replacement will improve the quality of the road and improve drivability for motorists."

There will continue to be periodic lane impacts while crews complete seeding and concrete repairs at 10th Street and Collins Street in Eaton. In addition, coordination with the railroad is required to finalize the traffic signal at US 85 and County Road 76.

The project is now 95 percent complete; final work is expected to be done in October.

Expect continued speed-limit reductions of 25 mph in the work zone, and 45 mph between the two towns. Work hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
