Highway 550 Fire Mitigation Road Closures Concluded Early

Due to favorable weather conditions, and additional manpower, fire mitigation work being performed by San Miguel Power Association along Highway 550 was completed at 11 AM, Thursday, September 23, 2021—about a day and a half ahead of schedule.  With 2021 work completed, the highway was opened to all traffic.

Additional vegetation clearing does need to take place North of CR18.  Hwy 550 will need to be closed at times in the Spring of 2022.  Trailheads may be temporarily closed, and equipment will need to be operational in SMPA’s Right-of-Way. SMPA will be posting updates as permit stipulations and closure schedules are finalized.

SMPA engineering contractors will still be working in the area rights of way and access road locations over the next several weeks as weather allows. This work should not affect traffic flow on highway 550.
