CDOT conducted an environmental assessment and conceptual design for $700 million of safety improvements on West Vail Pass. The study concluded in January 2021 with a Finding of No Significant Impact.

I-70 Auxiliary Lane Design

CDOT received a $60.7 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant, matched with additional funding, to start design and construction of a $140.4 million project, the first phase of improvements along West Vail Pass.

I-70 Auxiliary Lane Construction

Minor construction activities that should have little to no impact on I-70 traffic are scheduled to begin summer 2021. More major work activities are scheduled to begin spring 2022 and continue through 2024.
