Lane Closures Set to Begin on I-70 Near Lookout Mountain

March 25, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - JEFFERSON COUNTY – Bridge rail work at the Lookout Mountain Interchange (Exit 256) will require overnight lane closures on Interstate 70 for the next three weeks.

Beginning on Sunday, March 27, drivers can expect single lane closures on eastbound and/or westbound I-70 at the Lookout Mountain Interchange as crews remove old rail and install new rail on the bridge above the highway.  The lane closures will be in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Sunday, through Sunday, April 17.  A reduced speed limit will be in place through the work zone (45 mph eastbound/55 mph westbound) and some slowing should be expected through the area.

Alternating lane closures also will be in place on the bridge road above I-70, requiring brief traffic stops during the same hours.  At all other times, drivers should expect limited lane widths on the bridge road.

The closures are necessary to maintain safe driving conditions for the traffic traveling on I-70 and through areas where rail is being removed.
