I-25 Bridge Work Underway in Pueblo

April 27, 2011 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - PUEBLO – Bridge repairs by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will require overnight lane and ramp closures on Interstate 25 for the next few weeks.

The right lane of southbound I-25 will be closed from 29th Street to the U.S. 50 interchange (La Junta exit) on Sundays, from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., and Monday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.   A 45 mph speed limit is in effect during work hours.

In addition, the ramp from westbound U.S. 50 to southbound I-25 will be closed during the same hours.  Ramp traffic will be detoured to northbound I-25, and returned to southbound I-25 at 29th Street.

“The girders for the ramp overpass have been hit on more than one occasion by taller trucks so we need to remove some concrete and then re-patch it with new concrete,” says CDOT Project Engineer Rod Abbott.  “It’s a safety improvement since we’re maintaining the long-term stability of the bridge.”

Pueblo’s Lafarge West Inc. is the prime contractor, with TLM Constructors of Swink, Colo., performing the majority of the bridge work.

In mid-May, repairs are scheduled on another bridge along northbound I-25, between Ilex and 1st streets.  CDOT will send out an updated advisory regarding the schedule and traffic impacts before that work gets underway.
