Concrete Work to Close Ramp From University Boulevard to Eastbound C-470 This Weekend

May 6, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DOUGLAS COUNTY— Starting at 9 p.m. tonight, May 6th and continuing until noon on Sunday, May 8th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will remove and replace concrete pavement on University Boulevard at C-470 as part of an ongoing project.

The work will require a full closure of the ramp from northbound and southbound University Boulevard to eastbound C-470 as well as one lane of northbound University Boulevard at C-470.

“We were scheduled to complete this work last weekend, but due to inclement weather on Friday night and colder temperatures the rest of the weekend, we were unable to work,” said CDOT Project Engineer George Warda.  “The good news is that we are nearing completion of the work on northbound University Boulevard and will soon begin the final phase of construction.”

Throughout the weekend, motorists on northbound or southbound University Boulevard needing access to eastbound C-470 can take either Dad Clark Drive or County Line Road to Broadway where access to C-470 is available.

Delays are expected throughout the weekend and alternate routes are strongly advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

Following this weekend’s work, crews will have about one week of work remaining on the northbound lanes.  By mid-May, crews will place northbound University Boulevard in its final configuration and then realign southbound University Boulevard to the west the complete the reconstruction of the southbound lanes.  At this time, the bicycle/pedestrian trail and crossing at University Boulevard will reopen. The work at University Boulevard and C-470 is scheduled to be complete in early July 2011.

This work is part of a safety improvement project in three locations on University Boulevard and Wadsworth Boulevard.  The project will remove and replace deteriorating concrete at University Boulevard and C-470 and University Boulevard and Dry Creek Road.  In addition, the traffic signal at Wadsworth Boulevard and Coal Mine Avenue will be upgraded.
