US 6 to close overnight at Federal Boulevard Wednesday, March 4

March 3, 2015 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - Girder placement on Federal bridge over US 6 requires full closure.

DENVER – Crews on the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) US 6 Bridges Design Build Project are preparing to set girders on the Federal Boulevard bridge over US 6. As a result, they will implement a full closure of US 6 at the Federal Boulevard bridge on Wednesday, March 4, from 10 p.m. - 5 a.m.

“This work marks significant progress in the completion of the final portion of the new Federal Boulevard bridge over US 6,” said Kevin Sullivan, CDOT Project Director. “It’s the latest step for our project, which is on-schedule for completion in fall 2015.”

Crews will begin closing lanes on US 6 at about 7 p.m. in preparation for this full closure. There will also be various lane closures overnight in each direction on Federal Boulevard to accommodate girder placement. These will occur from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. as needed.

Drivers should also watch for various lane closures on I-25 near the US 6 interchange Wednesday night for drainage operations in the median. This work will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., with all lanes open in time for the morning rush hour.

With the recent downturn in weather, drivers are encouraged to remain alert, pay careful attention and always drive distraction-free when navigating the project corridor.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

  • US 6 detour: Traffic will detour using the Federal on and off-ramps.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for fall 2015.
