Detours Expected This Week For US 285 in the Town of Antonito

April 23, 2015 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Trucks to use Alternate Detour Access.

Antonito, CO – Antonito, CO – The 60-inch conduit along East 8th Avenue/Country Road G, which is part of the new storm water drainage system in Antonito, is being finalized this week. Crews from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor Concrete Works of Colorado are preparing for the same type of work on US 285 through town.

For the week of Monday, April 27, two manholes will be installed at the intersection of Main Street/US 285 and 8th Avenue. A detour will be instated. Those traveling north on US 285 will be rerouted east on 5thAvenue to Front Street. Vehicles will take Front Street to 10th Avenue and then back to US 285. The reverse detour is in place for those traveling south. Heavy trucks will use an alternate detour access via 2nd Avenue. Barricades will also be in place along Main Street/US 285 from 7th to 9thAvenues. This will close parking lanes, and potentially sidewalks in the area.

Per the project diagram attached, the upcoming work falls under Phase 1C and Phase 1D. The work being done is part of a $7.8 million dollar concrete reconstruction project to correct subgrade and roadway surface damage on US Highway 285. These highway and drainage improvements are slated for completion in mid-fall and are partially funded through a RAMP* partnership between CDOT and the town of Antonito.

*This state-local partnership project will receive funding from RAMP, Responsible Acceleration of Maintenance and Partnerships towards the approximately $2.7 million in drainage improvements. RAMP is better coordinating project expenditures and available funding. Under the RAMP program, CDOT will fund multi-year and partnership projects based on year of expenditure, rather than saving for the full amount of a project before construction begins.
