Nightly lane closures on northbound I-25 begin this week

April 7, 2015 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - Work needed for construction of new off-ramp bridge to US 6.

DENVER – Beginning Thursday, April 9, crews on the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) US 6 Bridges Design Build Project will implement a schedule of a nightly right lane closure on northbound I-25 between Alameda Avenue and the US 6 interchange for construction of the new northbound I-25 off-ramp bridge to US 6. This work will occur each night, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., through mid-May.

The new off-ramp bridge—expected to open in mid-June—features a continuous acceleration/deceleration lane from the Santa Fe Drive on-ramp through the US 6 interchange, which will improve the traffic pattern in this area.

“The work we’re starting this week is the beginning of a positive change for area drivers,” said Kevin Sullivan, CDOT Project Director. “When the new bridge opens in June, drivers should notice an improvement in traffic movement on northbound I-25 through the interchange.”

In preparation for this work, crews will implement a double right lane closuretonight on northbound I-25 between Broadway and the US 6 interchange for signage placement and striping work. In conjunction with this work, the Broadway on-ramp to northbound I-25 will also close overnight. All work will take place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

In addition to these activities, crews will also complete the following worktonight:

  • Striping on westbound US 6, requiring various lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  •     Safety equipment repairs on eastbound US 6, requiring a double right lane closure on eastbound US 6, in addition to an overnight closure of the eastbound US 6 on-ramp to southbound I-25. This work will begin at about 10 p.m. and last until 5 a.m.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

  • Broadway traffic looking to access northbound I-25 will detour by taking Lincoln Street to Alameda Avenue to Santa Fe Drive to Cedar Avenue to the ramp to northbound I-25.
  • Eastbound US 6 to southbound I-25 traffic will detour by taking the eastbound US 6 off-ramp to Osage Street, then using the Osage Street on-ramp to southbound I-25.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for fall 2015.
