US 6 (Dotsero) bridge rehabilitation work begins Wednesday

June 16, 2015 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - CDOT and contractor partner, ABCO Contracting Company Inc., will continue a bridge rehabilitation project on US 6 over the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) in Dotsero.

EAGLE COUNTY-Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, June 17, the Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner, ABCO Contracting Company Inc., will continue a bridge rehabilitation project on US 6 (I-70 Frontage Road) over the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) in Dotsero. The relatively short work zone is located between the westbound and eastbound I-70 ramps near mile post 133.8.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS: On US 6, construction activity will generally occur between 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Limited night or weekend work may be necessary. The project will require single lane alternating traffic through the work zone. A temporary traffic signal system will be installed and operational 24 hours, 7 days a week until the work is complete. Speed limits will be reduced and only minor delays are expected. CDOT would like to remind motorists to Slow for the Cone Zone. Fines will be doubled within the work zone.

This summer, crews will also perform waterproofing, deck patching and substructure work at this location. This $1 million project also includes similar bridge rehabilitation work recently completed on SH 131 over the Yampa River in Phippsburg. The entire project is anticipated to be complete this construction season.

In July 2015, US 6 over the UPRR will be closed for 72 consecutive hours for bridge abutment work. A signed detour route will be provided and a detour map will be posted on www.cotrip.org at least one week in advance of the closure. Exact dates and times will be posted on multiple signs in advance of and during the closure.
