Traffic Shifts and Lane Closures Coming on US 6 over Garrison Street

July 31, 2015 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 – As part of the replacement of the structurally deficient bridge on US 6 over Garrison Street, the Colorado Department of Transportation will require multiple traffic shifts

Overnight Tuesday, August 4, traffic on westbound US 6 will shift north onto the new bridge structure to allow for demolition of the center lanes on US 6 over Garrison Street. This traffic configuration will last until late November.

Demolition of the center lanes of US 6 will begin on Wednesday, August 5 through Friday, August 7. Two lanes in each direction of US 6 will be closed between the hours of10:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Garrison Street will be closed during this time. One lane on US 6 will remain open in each direction during the bridge demo, but delays are expected.

Background
The replacement of the existing and structurally deficient bridge along US 6 over Garrison Street started in January 2015 and will be completed in five phases. Three of the phases are for bridge demolition and reconstruction. In each phase, a section of the existing bridge will be demolished while a section of the new bridge is constructed. Three lanes in each direction on US 6 will be maintained at peak travel times throughout the project, but a series of shifts in the lanes will accompany each phase. Intermittent night work will result in lane closures.

The construction project will provide greater vertical sight distance on US 6, improve drainage, widen lanes on both US6 and Garrison Street and improve sidewalks, signals, bike lanes, aesthetics and lighting under the bridge.

The City of Lakewood has been an important partner in the planning and development of this project, which is scheduled for completion in late 2015.

CDOT and the contractor team, led by Hamon Infrastructure, would like to remind motorists to slow down in the construction area. Fines will be doubled within the work zone.
