Travel to improve through I-25/US 6 interchange

July 16, 2015 - Metro Denver Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Southbound I-25 off-ramp to eastbound 6th Avenue to reopen Friday, July 17

DENVER – Southbound I-25 drivers wanting to travel east on US 6 will see a marked improvement in their commute beginning Friday morning when the southbound I-25 loop ramp onto eastbound 6th Avenue reopens.

This ramp closed in late January and since that time, crews have rebuilt this off-ramp along with the southern portions of the US 6 bridges over Bryant Street and the S. Platte River. Prior to reopening this off-ramp, the lanes of eastbound US 6 will be realigned to the south over these new bridge structures, enabling a seamless transition from southbound I-25 onto eastbound US 6 via an acceleration/merge lane.

In conjunction with re-opening this off-ramp, an additional lane of southbound I-25 will open between 8th and 6th avenues to serve as a dedicated lane for drivers wanting to exit onto westbound US 6. These improvements are expected to help traffic flow through the interchange and reduce congestion on 8th Avenue and Zuni Street by eliminating this detour that has been in place for six months.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Kraemer North America, the primary contractor, is on schedule to complete the project by October 2015 – 20 months after initial construction impacts and nearly one year ahead of CDOT’s originally estimated timeframe for the project.
