Eastbound US 6 to Northbound I-25 flyover bridge closed for weekend

August 20, 2015 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – The eastbound US 6 flyover bridge to northbound I-25 will be closed this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, while crews do work on the structure’s expansion joints.

Throughout the weekend, crews will be replacing the expansion joint glands -- the rubber strips that protect the bridge deck from intruding water, dirt and debris.

While this work is being done, eastbound US 6 drivers wanting to travel north on I-25 will be directed south on I-25 to Alameda Avenue and then north on Santa Fe Drive to access northbound I-25.

In the coming weeks, similar work will be done on the westbound US 6 to southbound I-25 flyover bridge.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Kraemer North America, the primary contractor, is on schedule to complete the project in October – 20 months after initial construction impacts and nearly one year ahead of CDOT’s originally estimated timeframe for the project.

During construction, commuters might want to consider alternative modes of transportation to help ease the impacts of the project. This could include using the Regional Transportation District’s West Rail Line or bus service or taking advantage of carpool/vanpool options. For information on RTD services, call 303-299-6000.
