Critical Bridge Work Requires I-70 Lane Closure in Glenwood Canyon

October 23, 2015 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - GARFIELD COUNTY — One mile of Interstate 70 will be reduced to a single lane through Glenwood Canyon next week for bridge work.

Beginning on Monday, Oct. 26, one lane of eastbound I-70 will be closed from Shoshone (Exit 123) east to just west of the Hanging Lake Tunnel.  The closure will remain in place 24 hours a day, through Friday, Nov. 6.  A 25 mph speed limit will be in effect.

Traffic on westbound I-70 will not be impacted.

Two miles of the Glenwood Canyon Bike Path also will be closed, between Shoshone and Hanging Lake, during daytime working hours, Monday through Friday.  However, access to the Hanging Lake Rest Area and the Glenwood Canyon Trail to the east will remain open while construction is taking place.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is replacing two damaged bridge bearing devices.  A lane restriction and the trail closure are necessary to ensure public safety while the bridge is lifted off its pier and the bearing devices are replaced.

CDOT would like to remind motorists to Slow for the Cone Zone. Fines will be doubled within the work zone. If you have questions or concerns about this project, please call the project hotline at 970-930-8009 or email [email protected].
