Intermittent Closures on Highway 24 December 15, 2015

December 11, 2015 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - TRAVEL ALERT - Colorado Springs – As part of the Interstate 25/Cimarron Interchange Project, short intermittent closures will be required on U.S. 24 between I-25 and 8th Street on Dec. 15 from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Eastbound and westbound traffic will be stopped for approximately 15-minute intervals during this timeframe. Watch for Colorado Springs Police directing traffic in this area. 

This closure will allow Colorado Springs Utilities to remove existing overhead power lines.  These lines will be relocated underground to accommodate the new alignment of U.S. 24 and southbound I-25.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $113 million I-25/Cimarron Interchange Design-Build Project involves rebuilding the I-25 interchange between Colorado Avenue on the north and South Nevada Avenue to the south, 8th Street on the west and the Cimarron Street bridge over Fountain Creek on the east.Improvements will provide enhanced operations, correct existing safety and design deficiencies, and  serve the anticipated short- and long-term area travel demands. When complete, this will be a high-functioning interchange, safely handling more vehicles, enhancing multi-modal travel for those using I-25, US 24/Cimarron Street and the trail system along Monument and Fountain creeks. Substantial completion:  fall 2017.
