Background

The Federal Boulevard/69th Bridge Replacement Project over the BNSF Railroad & RTD’s Northwest Rail Line is replacing a structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridge.  It also is reconstructing a ½ mile segment of roadway between 67th and 70th avenues and adding retaining walls at the bridge approaches.

When complete, the new bridge will provide a wider roadway, eliminate an existing pinch point and allow for two additional through lanes over the bridge. ADA curb ramps will be added for handicap access and new wider sidewalks on each side of Federal Boulevard will improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety and mobility. Raised medians also will be added to separate traffic.  Aesthetic enhancements include an elevated median planter with the Westminster city logo that will also allow for future sculptures.  Additional benefits include new lighting along Federal and along the Little Dry Creek pedestrian trail, and a new signal at 69th Avenue to enhance access to the future RTD Eagle-P3 commuter rail station.

The City of Westminster has been key in the planning and development of this $12 million project.  It is scheduled for completion in winter 2017.
